With winter, it's all about the layers! I think this lady is going to stay warm. Just a quick sketch, hoping to work on it in Illustrator.

Illustration Friday, Prehistoric...

IF's word this week is Prehistoric. While a tree sloth is not prehistoric, they certainly did have relatives that were. This cold snap (in FL) made me think of slothful movement, slow...., even though I do enjoy this colder weather! I used as my model a photograph from Muybridge's Animal Locomotion. Because you certainly wouldn't find any sloths hanging around in this weather. Hand drawn by me, in graphite.

Or is it Savor? I'll take the cake and say I do savor it! Cake Lover, that's me. This started as a drawing, then I put it into photoshop and added the plate, the color, and background. Tried to do it in Illustrator, but drawing the old fashioned way just worked so much faster.

This is a monoprint I did awhile back to illustrate a short story. The figure in the middle has a cocoon look to it, so I thought I would post this one. The original is 22" by 30".

Confined? Illustration Friday

This week's IF word is Confined. Can this happy elephant really be confined by the tiny circus ring? I think not. I'm not a circus advocate, but I wanted to try a simple drawing using some new features in Illustrator. The elephant was hand drawn, then brought in digitally, and the background and other features were created with Illustrator.

Modify, Illustration Friday for July 31, 2009

This is an itaglio print I did a while ago. Modify? The solidity of the block will soon modify the energy created by the activity of the orbs. The print is approximately 11" x 14".

This print was derived from observing the flight of sparrows in heavy traffic.
